Commitment to Conserve

SPENDING MINDFULLY

Purchase durable high quality products.

We decided to spend wisely and locally. Most of the furnishings for our offices were from recycled goods or reused items. When we could not refit or reuse, we hired local craftsman to make furniture from native timber grown in Indiana in an environmentally responsible and sustainable way. We also insured that nontoxic glues and nontoxic water based finishes were used on the furniture.

Some of the pieces were refinished and retrofitted to a higher quality with more durable and conscientiously made parts.

BEING A PART OF A SUSTAINABLE AND RESTORATIVE ECONOMY

We strive to support the local economy by providing employment to local interpreters, thereby reducing work travel and having a positive impact on the environment by reducing their carbon footprint.

We also volunteer with the National Wildlife Federation as Habitat Stewards. We help educate local businesses, schools, libraries and individual homeowners on how to create a wildlife friendly habitat with whatever amount of green space they have. We were key players in Bloomington having received its certification as the 27th Community Wildlife Habitat in the United States in 2008. (Bloom Magazine, February/March 2009)

Buying locally, planting native species, supporting fair trades, recycling, reusing and restoring are all ways of revitalizing this beautiful land we have inherited.

Support companies that support the environment and preserve our future.

SUPPORTING LOCAL OWNERSHIP

We were fortunate to be able to be partners of PAH Relay. This provides us the opportunity to be vested in the long term sustainable success of the company and have direct participation in the decision-making.

GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY

Capitalism defines wealth in terms of money. We choose to define wealth in terms of the relationships, friendships and sense of community that we build through PAH Relay. We give back to the community by sharing our talents, volunteering our time and skills, hosting educational events and workshops and providing financial support to groups and individuals, all of which underline our commitment to supporting local, sustainable communities.
